It Isn't Necessarily Outdoors Anymore - Camping

Camping is a popular outdoor recreational activity which can be done in your own backyard or on campgrounds. Camping is an American tradition that can be traced back to the first organized camp in 1861. This tradition has been passed on from generation to generation and has always been connected to the enjoyment of the outdoors. Options for camping include the use of sleeping bags, tents, and campers (which are considered to be a luxurious way of roughing it in the outdoors). Campgrounds or campsites are designed according to the type of activities and amenities made available for campers.

Camping started in 1861 when students were first brought to an outdoor location where they set up camp and participated in activities such as boating and fishing for two weeks. Afterwards, other types of camping were introduced by different organizations. Most prominent of these were the YMCA, Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of America. These groups created different camping programs that aimed to develop survival skills as well as social, physical and mental skills. Young boys and girls were taught how to put up tents, make fire, cook food, administer first aid, and other outdoor activities. Camping activities also include recreational games and sports.

Nowadays, camping is no longer limited to boy scouts and girl scouts. The whole family can now enjoy camping without having to rough it in the woods such as sleeping on the ground and cooking over fire made with dry wood gathered in the area. The reason is that families can now use a camper or an RV (recreational vehicle) to go camping. Campers usually come with kitchens, toilets, beds, small dining, electricity, water, and even appliances. This is also the reason why people using RVs can go from one campground to another and spend a month or two for camping recreation and travel.

Campgrounds across the United States are available for all camping adventures. Options include areas where you can pitch your tent, park your camper or rent a cabin with all the amenities you need while still enjoying the outdoors. Campgrounds are located at private parks or campsites open to the public. These places usually offer common camping activities and facilities for fishing, hunting, hiking, and other outdoor recreation.
