Getting Around in the Snow - Snowmobiles

Snowmobiles

Snowmobiles are vehicles used on snow-covered land and usually driven using rubber tracks at the rear and skis at the front for steering. These are commonly used when touring ski resorts, for drag racing, and other snowmobile sports. Snowmobile sales and rentals are available mostly in ski resorts or their nearby shopping areas. Any snowmobiler can enjoy drifting and traveling on snow or other surfaces while visiting ski resorts and other tourist attractions offering such services.

The first design for snowmobiles was created in 1908 and was used to haul logs in Maine. It resembled a steam machine but the front half had skis. Subsequently, snowmobiles evolved until J. Armand Bombardier designed a wind driven sleigh using a model T engine. It became the ancestor of the modern snowmobile that we know today. Other types of snowmobiles were created afterwards, which includes the motor toboggan, the Bombardiers, the Polaris Sno Traveler, and the Arctic cat.

Many, if not most, snowmobiles are sold or rented out in ski resorts. There are also snowmobile sales and rentals in the nearby areas of ski resorts as well as online. The newest models are available for purchase or rental and most of these establishments also sell or rent helmet and clothing. The tag price for snowmobiles depends on the model but rental fees may run from $90 to $300 depending on the type/model and the amount of time you are going to rent out the machine. Helmets can be rented at $10 each. On the other hand, if you are going to rent a helmet plus the complete outer snowmobiler wear, it will cost you at least $20.

Snowmobiler is the term coined for anyone who rides a snowmobile. However, the word is more appropriate to anyone who takes snowmobiling as a sport and a way of life. This is typical to those who race using snowmobiles and those who make a living using these machines such as touring other people or delivering merchandise.
