Qualifying to Become a Real Estate Agent

Licensure is a must for real estate agents wanting to practice in any state in the country.  Aspiring agents must pass a written examination, which includes questions covering everything from basic real estate transactions to laws affecting the sale of property. Most states also require that prospective real estate agents complete thirty to ninety hours of in class instruction.  Some Universities also offer degrees in real estate.  State licenses typically must be renewed every 1 or 2 years.  While no retesting is required, there are continuing education requirements that must be met by the real estate agent.  Specific requirements for licensure and renewal depend on the state in which the agent is working.
