Keep Clothes and Fabrics Clean - Laundry

Laundry

Laundry refers to items that need to be washed whether clothes or other fabric and textiles. It is also the term used to refer to the act of washing the clothes as well as the room where this is done. Nowadays, modern laundry or washing machines are used for washing and drying clothes. Some of these have high-tech functions where you only need to pop in your clothes, wait, and after the whole process, retrieve washed and dried clothes out of the machine. If washing machines are not available in the place you are staying, commercial laundromats can be conveniently found in most neighborhoods across the country.

Laundry can be traced back during the time that clothes made of fabric were first used. Clothes are just like the body. They must be kept clean for hygienic purposes. Laundry was first done in streams and other bodies of fresh water. This was done by submerging the clothes into the water and letting the stream carry away dirt, stains, and smells. Subsequently, soap was invented and used for washing clothes which helped remove dirt further. If there is no flowing water or streams available for laundry, most laundry can also be done using vats or large metal cauldrons filled with water.

Even though laundry is still done the ancient way in some less industrialized countries, most homes nowadays have modern laundry appliances such as washing machines and dryers. Modern laundries utilize machines designed for the purpose of washing and drying clothes and other items conveniently. The washers use water and soap to remove dirt, stains, and smell. Modern laundry appliances are categorized as top loading or front loading. The differences lie in the doors used for loading and the spinning direction.

If you are staying in an apartment, hotel or dormitory which does not have its own laundry, the only way to wash your clothes is to go to a commercial laundromat. Commercial and self-service laundromats are facilities where you can have your clothes washed and dried on your own or by the laundromat’s staff. You only need to pay a specific rate or put in the correct amount into the money slots to be able to use the washing machines and dryers.
