Photocopying

Photocopying is the process of copying a written or printed document using photographic techniques. It is usually used for office procedures if a few copies of the original are needed. A photocopying machine is used to copy items during this process. Photocopying is so synonymous with the process of xerography that photocopying machines are also known as Xerox machines. There are several businesses that offer photocopying services that include making black & white photocopies and color photocopies.

Photocopying processes often include silver halide, transfer, plan, thermographic, and electrostatic, among others. Silver halide is a photocopying process that uses photostating and microfilming as ways to make photographic copies of an original. Photocopying also has the ability to enlarge or to shrink the original document or item. The transfer process usually involves the original document to be placed in contact with a negative paper and exposed light. Another photocopying process is the transfer method which is less expensive than silver halide. However, the photocopy usually fades after some time.

Photocopying machines or photocopiers are widely used in businesses, schools, and other offices. These are usually used for copying documents for distribution. Photocopying machines work first by charging which involves a surface of a cylindrical drum to be electrostatically charged by a high voltage wire called a corona wire or a charge roller. The next step is the exposure wherein a bright light or lamp illuminates the original document that produces a latent electrical image on the surface of the cylindrical drum. Afterwards, the developing process follows where the toner is positively charged and followed by the transferring step. The toner image on the surface of the drum is then transferred into a piece of paper. Fusing is the next step that involves the process of the toner being melted and bonded to the paper using heat and pressure rollers. Finally, the cleaning process is next in which the drum is wiped clean by a rubber blade and discharged by light.

The processes mentioned are provided by photocopying services whether in black & white or colored copies. Another photocopying service available is called the overhead transparencies. Many of these photocopying services companies offer photocopying by bulk that includes collating, binding, folding, reducing and enlarging. Aside from photocopies, they also produce copies for proposals, flyers, reports and other prints. These photocopying services are found online or on your local business district.
