Different Types and Uses of Trailers - Trailers

Trailers are vehicles which are used to transport goods, as homes and offices in a short period of time. These are usually without power of their own, thus they have to be pulled by another vehicle such as cars or trucks. There are different types of trailers and these include travel trailers, semi-trailers, and full trailers, among many others. Trailer rentals are available in many are establishments nationwide which can be leased at reasonable prices and period of rental time.

Trailers can be traced back to gypsies, showmen, and travelling sales people. They spent most of their lives travelling using horse drawn wagons. However, the first travel trailer in history which can be considered to be a leisure trailer was built in 1880 in Europe. In the United States, trailers often refer to travel trailers and mobile homes which are often used as homes when travelling or as permanent abodes. There are trailer parks nationwide which are especially allocated for trailers alone.

There are three main types of trailers and these are:

  • Travel trailers – these are usually pop-up campers which are lightweight and can be pulled by a small car. Two of the most popular travel trailers in the business are the BMW Air Camper and the Coleman Bayside. These are often used as temporary homes while traveling which offer more comfort than tents and less expensive than renting a room in a motel or hotel.
  • Semi-trailers – these are the type of trailers without a front axle. These are usually supported by a landing gear and can be linked together pulled by a road tractor. Examples of these include open-topped grain haulers and refrigerated enclosures.
  • Full trailers - these are trailers with front and read axles and can be pulled by drawbars.

All of the mentioned types of trailers are available from trailer rentals. However, the most popular are those used for travel or mobile homes. Trailer rentals can provide you with a reasonable price which can save you more than buying a trailer for yourself. This is especially true if you will only use it on occasion and in short periods of time. Just make sure that the trailer you are renting is covered by insurance in case of accident or loss.
