They usually deal with the personality of crimes being charged to their clients. In the United States, criminal defense lawyers stand by their clients’ rights to presumption of innocence until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Criminal defense lawyers are expected to actively pursue their clients’ causes throughout the stages of criminal prosecution. They are also often employed by the government as Public Defenders to provide counsel to those who cannot afford their own criminal defense lawyer.

Prosecutors, on the other hand, are trial lawyers who are the chief legal representatives of the prosecution which present cases against individuals or companies suspected of breaking the law in a court of law or criminal trial. Prosecutors are often employed by an office of the government responsible for representing the state against a suspected law breaker who have common law, civil law and social law jurisdictions depending on the form of government or laws applied to prosecution cases.
