The Fight Continues - AIDS Resources

With over a million people in the United States suffering from HIV or the AIDS virus, it is imperative that people be aware of the resources available for treatment, prevention, and support. There are numerous foundations and companies in every state that aim to combat AIDS in any way possible. Until a cure can be found, people must rely on these resources to help stop the spread of HIV and AIDS and to make life more manageable for those already suffering.

TREATMENT AND CARE

There is no cure for HIV or AIDS at this time, so people infected must rely on a variety of antiretroviral medicines and therapies to curb the spread of the viruses. Federal and private facilities are constantly working towards finding a cure and bettering the medicines we already have. The government’s HIV and AIDS website, www.aids.gov, provides links to countless resources covering a wide range of topics. There are programs offering services for HIV/AIDS patients, information regarding AIDS and mental health, substance abuse and depression, and an easy search for testing clinics.

PREVENTION AND EDUCATION

HIV/AIDS prevention must start early on in a person’s life, so that by the time we reach our teenage years, we’re well aware of the danger. There are numerous resources that can help people learn about the virus, either on a one-on-one basis or as a group, such as a school lecture. One can also find countless brochures and online resources that detail the many ways to protect oneself against HIV or AIDS, and there are many clinics that offer a wide variety of services, including AIDS testing and information.

SUPPORT THE CAUSE

HIV/AIDS research thrives on the dedication and generosity of donors. Many famous musicians and movie stars are known for their consistent charity to this cause, but in fact help comes from all kinds of people from all walks of life. There is certainly no shortage of charities to give to, most of which can be found easily on online resources. These charities may distribute money to research facilities, medical clinics, to people struggling with HIV or AIDS, or all three.

A cure for HIV and AIDS might not be right around the corner, but that does not mean that the spread of the viruses cannot be curtailed through other means. With the vast array of information available at one’s fingertips, everyone should be aware of all the resources available for learning about and dealing with HIV and AIDS.
